Swadlincote Snowsports Centre


The Swadlincote Snowsports Centre has a different variety of activities to take part in. these activities are skiing, snowboarding, tubing and tobogganing, and they also include deals for their customers to engage them. The deal are that they have a holiday camp, birthday parties and functions such as weddings. Adding on to this, they also have included a restaurant in the centre which you can go to and enjoy.

Skiing- skiing at this centre comes in a variety of different options. This includes different type of lessons such as Adult & Junior Lessons, Tots Group Lesson, Private Lesson sand Family Lessons. In addition to this, it also includes what type of level you are and the level go from level 1 to level 5.

Level 1 is for Complete Beginners

Become familiar with the ski equipment: Learn how to walk and slide on a flat surface.

Progression to walking and sliding down a slope: Able to side step up our teaching slope and slide back down.

Awareness of the Ski code: Learn the basics behind the ski code.

Level 2 is for Developing Snowplough

Snowplough glide: Be able to glide down the slope slowly using a Snowplough to control their speed.

Snowplough brake: Be able to stop halfway down the slope using the Snowplough.

Straight run to snowplough stop: Be able to do straight skis down the hill and bring themselves to a stop using a Snowplough.

Get Ready In a Day Course

Level 3 is for Introduction to Turning

Snowplough turning exercises: Be able to do small direction changes on the way down the slope staying in the Snowplough.

Snowplough turn in and out of the fall line: Be able to do controlled turns in both directions maintain control using a Snowplough.

Use of lift: Be able to use drag lift unaided.

Level 4 is for Linking Turns

Linked snowplough turns: Cover the basics of turning using a snowplough

Linked plough turns – varied radius & control of speed: Be able to control plough turns and change them based on the terrain steepness, whilst maintaining their speed.

Level 5 is for Basic & Plough Swings

Basic plough parallel: Ploughing around the corner and matching skis after the fall-line.

Plough parallel: Progressively matching skis earlier in the fall-line.

They also have a ski fresh section and this is when you have skied before but you have lost your touch. Prices are different as to which lesson and level you pick.

Snowboarding- snowboarding at this centre would be a great way to spend some time with friends and families. Snowboarding also includes different types of lesson such as Adult & Junior Lessons, Private Lessons and Family Lessons. They also include different types of levels so that they can better you and also make you enjoy your time and make it worth your money.

The level are level 1 which is Introduction to Snowboarding

Walking with your snowboard: Be able to walk and turn on the flat, and walk up hill with your snowboard attached to one foot.

Straight run: Be able to slide straight down the slope using a “run-out” to stop.

Awareness of the Snowboard code: Understand the safety rules of the slope.

Level 2 is learning to control your speed

Side slipping – toe and heel: Be able to slide down the hill at slow speed whilst balanced on heel or toe edge of board using the edge to control speed.

Diagonal side slip – toe and heel: Be able to slide diagonally across slope in both directions on both toe and heel edge.

Level 3 is learning to control direction and use of lift

Falling leaf – toe and heel: Be able to turn your board from a side slip to a steep angle and back again.

Garlands – toe and heel: Same as falling leaf except a garland is in one direction multiple times.

Use of lift: Be able to use drag lift comfortably and unaided.

Level 4 is Entering the Fall Line

Falling leaf – toe and heel – into fall line: Be able to move the snowboard from a level side slip, both toe or heel, into the fall line (straight down the hill) while maintaining good posture and balance, then return back to controlled side slip using a controlled skid.

Garlands – toe and heel – into fall line: Same as falling leaf, just in same consecutive direction.
