where the peace negotiations took place in cooperaton with Münster to end the Thirty Years’ War
Since 1976 Osnabrück is twinned with Derby. The twinning agreement was signed in the Hall of Peace.
Osnabrück is one of the four largest cities in Lower Saxony. Through its good location some of the larger cities of Germany are easy to reach as well. For example Hamburg, Hannover, Dortmund or Bremen takes less than two hours.
Flights from Manchester to Hamburg costs £82 (opodo.co.uk) and a train from Hamburg to Osnabrück another £27.27 (trainline.eu). Try to plan your trip as early as possible to keep the prizes low.
Osnabrück has plenty of hotels to offer. One of them is the 4 star Romantik Hotel Walhalla. With £93 per night it is one of the more expensive hotels in Osnabrück but fully worth it. They offer a spa with sauna, a steam bath, solarium and the David Lounge Bar with its beer garden. The equally named Restaurant serves a fresh traditional cuisine. The hotel is located very central near the town hall.
If you search a hotel for getting some rest only than you might look for a cheaper hotel like the ibis Budget Hotel City where the prizes start at £49 for one night. This 1 star hotel is right next to the train station.
There are plenty of things to do in Osnabrück. For the sightseeing kind of persons out there: you can visit the famous town hall, the Dome Sankt Petrus or just have a walk over the Heger Tor.
To all fans of cultural discovery. You can either visit the Felix Nussbaum Museum or the Theatre.
If you want to go shopping you can do this on the Grosse Strasse in Osnabrück or you can travel to the nearby city’s like Hamburg, Bremen or Dortmund.
For those who are interested in visiting some events to enjoy your time in Osnabrück even more. Therefore I will give you a few proposals.
When you are in the city in December then keep an eye out for the Christmas market. The old historical quarter around the town hall and the market square will be decorated with a lot of lights and little shops. The shops sell a bunch of different products from food over drinks to self-crafted wood figures and much more. This diversity is also a reason for the nice unique smell all over the market which reminds everyone that it is Christmas time. Here should everybody find something to have good time.
If it is May you may be interested in visiting the May week. There will be various artists and musicians on the street during this week.
Those of you who like drinking some beer you can participate in a challenge to obtain a so called beer diploma. For further information you can check this site http://www.bierdiplom.com/staedte/osnabrueck/.
