Crowned ‘Best City Location’ in the Great British High Street Awards, Cathedral Quarter businesses work together under the area’s status as a Business Improvement District (BID) to improve the visitor experience.

Projects include the CQ loyalty card scheme which offers cardholders great benefits and special offers at over seventy businesses. Cards are valid until February 2023 and, for a limited time only, you can purchase yours at the discounted price of £4 using the code ‘CQLife2018’. Simply go to fill in the short application and make your payment via PayPal. The card will be delivered to your home address within ten working days.

Throughout November and December, the Cathedral Quarter transforms into a winter wonderland with streets adorned with festive lights and decorations. You will find an abundance of live outdoor entertainment throughout the area, suitable for all the family and sure to get you in the Christmas mood. Look out for the ‘Christmas in the Cathedral Quarter’ stages located by Derby Cathedral on Iron Gate, at the Waterfall on the Market Place and outside Derby Museum & Art Gallery on The Strand.

As always, the Market Place will be a hive of festive activity with the Christmas Lights Switch On event on November 17, whilst the Cathedral Quarter Christmas Ice Rink takes centre stage from November 30 to January 6. Don your skates and go for a spin on the real ice!

Shopping in the Cathedral Quarter is a very unique experience with a large number of specialist retailers from independent boutiques to well-known national names such as Joules, White Stuff, Doc Martins, Jack Wills and Bang and Olufsen. The Cathedral Quarter are once again sponsoring the return of the ice rink to the Market Place in association with Derby LIVE. Whether out with a group of friends, spending time as a family or looking for a venue for a work Christmas party – a spin on the Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink made of real ice, is a fabulous, festive treat.




Saturday 17th November, 3:30pm

Join in with the festivities! Don’t miss the Christmas Lights Switch-On sponsored by Smooth! Join a festive parade with your family and then enjoy a variety of entertainment on the Market Place stage, leading up to the big switch-on event around 6pm. The traditional Christmas celebration will be held on the Market Place from 3.30pm and also includes a festive parade from The Spot to the Market Place. The event is supported by Smooth Radio and will be British Sign Language Interpreted by Sarah Gatford.




EVERY Saturday during December

A chance to sing along to the best-selling musical, led by members of Derby Cathedral’s Voluntary Choir. Based on the true tale the life of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman stars Hugh Jackman as the legendary figure alongside an all-star cast including Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson. Presented at Derby Cathedral as part of the ‘QUAD in Residence at Derby Cathedral’ season – a programme of cinema classics, family favourites and seasonal specialities screening in the unique surroundings of the Cathedral Nave.
