This year is all about creativity and collaboration. I have been discovering just what can be achieved if we collaborate with each other and as Savvy Women is all about celebrating the amazing things that we do across Derbyshire and our surrounding counties, I thought that I would give a shout out to some amazing ladies where collaborations have already happened and some wonderful women that are currently planning some exciting events, encouraging creativity and supporting collaboration in business.

Last year, I was lucky enough to be invited by awesome wedding photographer ‘Kirsty Rockett’ to collaborate on an unconventional urban styled shoot in Nottingham, along with the talented Lou Gibson of Inanna Bespoke Shoes. Lou not only paints shoes and boots, she also makes them completely from scratch, for this shoot, it was fantastic to see a pair of Dr Martens painted by Lou to complement one of my alternative bouquets. We had such fun during the day and Kirsty came alive when we were walking the streets of Nottingham photographing Lou and her partner. If you’re wondering? The quirky pink striped dress was created by a lovely local dress maker, Elizabeth Mary Bridal Designs. I met Elizabeth for the first time in Nottingham, only to discover her studio is less than ten minutes from my CRZyBest Shedquarters in Derby, sometimes we need to look closer to home. Hopefully we will all have more creative collaborations in the future!

Working across two definite industries I am lucky enough to have opportunities to meet, work and collaborate with so many creative and supportive people. I can definitely say the happiest people I meet, are the ones who want to collaborate with others and are happy to give their time to support fantastic notions and brilliant ideas! Nothing like supporting your well-being whilst working!

Starting off this year with a styled shoot organised by a wonderful photographer and talented event stylist, meant 2020 was off to a fantastic start. Collaborating with these determined and savvy women was the best beginning to a year, the way Bethan from Finishing Flourishes took Adele’s vision and transformed the blank canvas of Katie’s Barn at Aston Hill Farm (a working organic dairy farm) was truly magical. The interior styling was only surpassed by the way Adele of ‘Fly on the Wall Photography’ captured the moment along with the tiniest of details.

I’m looking forward to being able to share images of not only my first shoot of the year but also a commission created for a female run interior design company later on in the year. For now, I am excited about events happening over the next few months, again all predominantly organised by women.
March 15th sees a collection of over thirty creatives getting together for The Derbyshire Makers Spring Artisan Fair, held at the impressive Whitworth Centre in the heart of Darley Dale, a building that exists due to the forward-thinking Lady Louisa Whitworth, an historic savvy woman of her time.

The Derbyshire Makers are a steadily growing network of friendly, inspiring and supportive Derbyshire creatives, offering mutual support, collaboration and friendship, founded by Amanda McConnell, Photographer & Tutor at Happy World Photography and Louise James, Owner & Tutor at Sew Need a Drink. Having already had the pleasure of spending a day taking part in a business planning and vision workshop, with these lovely ladies, I am certainly looking forward to being a part of March’s Artisan Fair.

With so many exciting events taking place over March and April, one that I am particularly looking forward to promises to be an awesome collaboration of businesses at a gorgeous new outdoor venue: The Meadow Vale Wedding Festival by Unconventional Wedding is running over the weekend of 4th & 5th April. The Festival promises to be an amazing experience for both happy couples and suppliers alike, with the Meadow Vale owners being totally up for including quirky touches and getting original creativity into the mainstream. There is a collaboration of amazing businesses on the day before the event, putting together not just one, but two fabulous styled shoots, for which I have been invited to showcase a bespoke Bee Bouquet, copper animal sculptures and silver vine leaf jewellery. Keep an eye on our websites and social media for updates!
