Hide and Thread is a small, independent furniture business, creating handmade and bespoke furniture for customers across Derbyshire and beyond.
Q. So where did you start this wonderful business?
A. I started years ago in Derby working with people from a care home.
Q. Is it a struggle in a small town? Do you get a lot of tourist trade?
A. The shop has only been open 3 months, we have a good mixture of tourist and local trade.
Q. What inspired you to help young people with learning needs?
A. By the Grace of God and being a business owner I am in the position to provide opportunities and give help to people with learning needs as young people these days need as much help and support as they can get.
Q. Where would you like to see yourself next year?
A. I would like to have a central workshop supplying two shops and website, employing vulnerable people on a good living wage.
Q. What advice would you give to someone just starting up?
A. Go for it but be realistic. Take advice from everywhere. Expect to work very hard, respect and value every customer. 80% of your trade will come from 20% of your customers.
